-start 10.31.96----------- coupla quick things. radiologists haven't been around lately, so what we're doing is....we can either postpone all the rads to the next section, or we can go with the fact that the radiographical questions will be pretty easy. just superficially go over the radiographs.... re: exam. think about goat limb...one or two stations for front limb and one or two for the hind limb. don't spend a lot of time on the ruminant limb. today: fresh limb. rich was wounded preparing these specimens. these fresh limbs won't keep over the weekend so we should really get intoo it today. don't dissect for vessels and nerves, dissect for mechanical structures. when you skin it, notice the distal digital annular lig and the proximal digital annular ligament is a bubble - the digital synovial sheath. look also at the coffin joint capsule and the navicular bursa. on Pii is the caudal complementary fibrocartilage pad that the straight sesamoidean lig goes to. look at the navicular bursa the digital sheath and the joint capsule of the coffin joint. see the distal navicular ligament. the navicular articulates with Pii and Piii. there is also a collateral navicular ligament coming down from the distal end of Pi to the top of the navicular bone. these collateral ligs are medial and lateral, and they actually become nearly cartilaginous as they meet eachother on the dorsal side of the navicular bone. deep digital flexor tendon coming down enters the synovial sheath about 3 fingers above the metacarpophalangeal joint. the synovial digital sheath goes all the way down to the insertion of the tendon on the navicular bone, and down there is also the navicular bursa and the joint capsule, so there are three synovial structures in the distal limb.... take a look at the sagittal section of the distal limb which has yellow around the digital sheath.
