Haptens are low-molecular weight compounds that are only immunogenic if
conjugated to high mw carrier molecules. Recall that immunogenicity
requires foreignness, high molecular weight, and chemical complexity.
Haptens alone are therefore not immunogenic - they lack size and
complexity. A hapten can react with a particular Ab that is specific for
its structure or sequence.
