For Your Information was first thought up two years ago between two high school students sitting in study hall. Both had an interest in ska, and both wanted to start some sort of a band. They found a drummer and started rehearsing and finding their own sound.
The three piece soon added horns and began to play small shows. Bringing the ska sound out in the area was not easy, because most people hardly knew what ska was, but they kept on playing.
Small shows led to high school shows, and high school shows soon led to opening gigs for some of the most respected ska bands in the United States including Bim Skala Bim, Mephiskapheles, Ruder Than You, Public Service, and the Blue Meanies.
For Your Information's sound is mostly third-wave, but a few new unreleased songs have taken the more traditional style with a spice of third-wave. FYI respects the first wave, or traditional ska, but as a band they feel their interests and their lyrics can be carried better by the third-wave sound.
Support around Philly for FYI is increasing, and many around Philly can relate to the lyrics of such songs as "Suburbanite" and "High School Sucks."
Lately, FYI has taken the spot as one of Philly's most "up and coming" bands. Two local, but national, ska bands, Ruder Than You and Public Service, have taken an interest in FYI and support and help them book shows, record, and publicize.
One of the most unique things about FYI is that they are one of the youngest ska bands around. Although there are other high school ska bands getting a name for themselves such as the Preschoolers and the Nigel 6, FYI is the youngest.
For Your Information is now taking on a new venture, coming out of just the Philly scene. Tours are being planned for June, and trips have been made to colleges and cities to play.
